Three hands-on days covering the complete picture — the foundation, the cutting and mains power skills, and a third day of bespoke woodwork shaped around your specific build. Scott discusses Day 3 with you beforehand so it tackles the plywood, kitchen carcasses and joints you’ll actually need, rather than a generic syllabus.
This course is for people committed to a full DIY conversion who want every core skill in one package — and who’d rather have their last day of tuition tuned to their own van than shared across a standard curriculum. Most 3-day students leave with both the skills and a concrete plan.
Day 1 is the foundation for every campervan course we run. The 3-day course includes all three days — Day 1 foundations, Day 2 cutting and mains power, and a bespoke Day 3 of woodwork shaped around your build. There’s no need to book them separately. You can also split them — do the 2-day now and come back for Day 3 later when you hit the woodwork stage.
The course runs at our indoor workshop in Evercreech, Somerset — between Shepton Mallet and Castle Cary, 20 minutes from Wells and Glastonbury, about 45 minutes from Bath.
Campervan electrics — covered hands-on
Campervan electrics is the part of a conversion most self-builders worry about. On this course you’ll cover it across two days, hands-on, building and wiring real systems at the bench — not just watching.
On Day 1, 12V electrics from first principles:
- Power requirements and cable sizing
- Fuses, switches, wiring looms
- USB ports, lighting, water pumps
- A functioning 12V system you’ve built yourself
On Day 2, 240V mains hook-up:
- Wiring 240V connectors onto sheet metal
- Wiring the backs, proving it works
- Understanding exactly how mains power gets into a van safely
By the end you’ll have real confidence with van electrics — not the theoretical kind that evaporates when you’re lying under your own dashboard at home.
What Days 1, 2 and 3 cover
Day 1 — Fundamentals and 12V electrics
- Complete walkthrough of the conversion
- Van layout planning, legislation (weights, registration), crash-safe design
- Insulation
- Diesel heater overview
- Hands-on 12V bench work (afternoon)
Day 2 — Cutting and 240V
- Diesel heaters pulled apart in detail
- Cutting holes in your van — practising the metal-cutting skills
- Hands-on 240V hook-up
Day 3 — Bespoke woodwork, tailored to your build
- No fixed lesson plan — Scott talks to you in advance
- Typically covers: cutting plywood to awkward shapes, kitchen carcasses, joints
- Shaped around your specific project

This course genuinely changed my life! Scott was kind and patient, and such an amazing teacher. I learned about 6 months of knowledge in 3 days. (Plus his dog is super cute and sue makes amazing cakes!) the other students on the course were a joy to be around and we are still staying connected post the course to help each other through the process. Could not recommend this course enough! Worth every pence.

Scott provides a great overview of all the processes and problems encountered in undertaking your own van conversion. He is obviously very skilled and experienced in the area and has a great knowledge which he is able to pass on to others with both patience and humour. It is well worth attending and will make the whole process seem less daunting for the inexperienced.

A great course for any aspiring van to camper converter! I have watched hours of u tube videos but Scott was skill-fully able to cover an enormous amount of ground on the topic over a 2 day period. He helpfully added the crucial helpful detail to what I had already learned but also with excellent customer focus by adapting the content to my personal circumstances. Scott was also a good educator breaking down and simplifying the more complex and often conflicting advice aspects such as electrics and insulation. He also helped allay our fears by concentrating on specific areas we had raised as confusing or concerning such as cutting holes in our vans – which we got hands on experience of practising – not quite so scary after all! A truly great experience. Scott, Sue, the dogs, chickens and bees all made us very welcome. Hoping to go back for more crafty experiences in the very near future.

A great two days with Scott and some other enthusiasts. Scott is full of knowledge and delivers his teaching in a very accessible way. He’s always open to questioning and give the best advice based on his extensive knowledge. Which is more than good enough for me. The course answered many questions I had and it’s certainly started me on the course of looking at vans and collecting the things I need to start. Many, many thanks Scott. Oh, and by the way, thanks to his wife for the cakes. I’m already looking forward to the van woodwork course. !”

Amazing day spent with Scott. My husband and I learnt so much, gained insightful advice and even had the most delicious cake from Sue. I have never understood electric circuits but we both got to set up a loom and I now get it! We now have the confidence to wire our own van. Scot was so helpful, patient and a great teacher. Definitely do this course if you are starting out on your van conversion journey.
