Plan and build your campervan with Scott in your corner for a whole year. You get a downloadable workbook, a 1-hour foundation video session, and six 30-minute follow-up sessions booked whenever your build needs them.
This course is designed for people who can’t get to our workshop in Somerset, whether because of distance or because they can’t fit in a weekend course. You get the same knowledge as our hands-on courses, with real answers from a real person rather than another evening of conflicting YouTube videos. It works completely on its own, or alongside our 1, 2 or 3-day courses.
Your sessions, your timetable. Book each session when you reach a stage you need help with – daytime or evening. Email us what you want to cover, we talk it through on video, and you get written notes afterwards.
Sessions run by video call from our workshop in Evercreech, Somerset, so you can join from anywhere.

The workbook covers all the key elements of a van build, matching what we teach on our 1, 2 and 3-day workshop courses: planning and layout, legislation and weights, crash-safe design, insulation, 12V and 240V electrics, diesel heaters, cutting holes in your van, and woodwork. Fill it in before your foundation session and we’ll use it as the starting point for your plan.
What the foundation session covers
In one hour we turn your workbook into a step-by-step plan for your own van.
- A walkthrough of the whole conversion process – what’s involved, in what order, and why
- Your van layout, using your workbook answers and any sketches you send
- Legislation: weights, van registration and reclassifying as a motor caravan
- Crash-safe design – building your van so it doesn’t hurt you in a crash
- Your power needs: battery, charging and 12V/240V options
- Insulation, ventilation, heating and water – what fits your van and budget
- Which jobs to do yourself and which to hand to a qualified professional
You finish with a build order and a clear list of what to tackle first. Your follow-up sessions then pick up each stage as you reach it – cutting holes, wiring, plumbing, woodwork or anything else that comes up.
How it works
You book each session by email when you need it, and every call ends with written notes.
- Book the course. Your workbook download arrives straight away with your booking confirmation.
- Fill in the workbook. It takes an evening or two, and the more you put in, the more we get done.
- Email to book your foundation session. Tell us two or three times that suit you – weekday daytime or evening – and send your completed workbook and any photos of your van.
- Have your video call with Scott. We use Google Meet; you just click the link we send. A laptop or tablet works best so you can see sketches and diagrams.
- Get your notes. We email a summary of what we covered, your next steps and any product or safety points.
- Book follow-ups as you go. When you hit a stage you want help with, email us what you need to cover and some times that suit. Use your six sessions whenever you like within the 12 months.
Your 12 months start from the date you book, so book when you’re ready to start planning.
Is this the right course for you?
Take it on its own from anywhere in the UK, or pair it with a hands-on course in Somerset for the full picture.
| If you’re… |
Then we’d suggest… |
| Too far from Somerset, or want support at your own pace |
This online course on its own |
| Want hands-on skills first, then support while you build |
The 1-day, 2-day or 3-day course plus this online course |
| Want to plan first, then practise the tricky bits at the bench |
This online course, then a hands-on course when you reach electrics, cutting or woodwork |
Many students find the combination works best: learn the skills at the workshop, then have Scott on hand by video when you’re actually doing it in your own van.

Extra sessions and what you need
Once your six follow-ups are used, you can book extra 30-minute sessions for £40 each, on the same terms and with notes afterwards.
Who it suits: people who can’t get to Somerset because of distance or time, including first-time converters, people part-way through a build who are stuck, and couples or friends building together (both are welcome on the same call). No previous experience needed.
What you need:
- A laptop, tablet or phone with a camera and internet connection
- An email address to book sessions and receive notes
- Your van, or details of the one you’re thinking of buying
- Photos, measurements or sketches you’d like to talk through
How do I book?
As each course is bespoke and you choose the timing, the simplest way is to book it as a voucher.
You then have 12 months to use your course, or you can give it as a present to someone else.
When you are ready to start, just contact us and we will get it sorted.
Give it as a gift: a BlackPaw voucher for £185 covers the whole online course.
FAQs
Q. When can I have my sessions? Weekday daytimes and evenings, by arrangement. Email two or three times that suit you and we’ll confirm one.
Q. What if I need more than 30 minutes? You can use two follow-ups back to back for a 1-hour call, or book an extra session.
Q. Can I save sessions for later in my build? Yes. Use them whenever you like within 12 months of booking. Unused sessions expire after that.
Q. What if I can’t make a session I’ve booked? Let us know at least 24 hours before and we’ll rearrange it. Sessions missed without notice count as used.
Q. Can you sign off my electrics or gas? No. We teach you how to plan and build safely, and tell you when a job needs a qualified professional. Gas installations should be checked and certified by a Gas Safe engineer qualified for motor caravans.
Q. Can I come to the workshop instead? Yes – see our hands-on 1, 2 and 3-day courses in Evercreech. You can combine them with this course at any point.
Q. Photos and recordings You’re welcome to take notes and screenshots during your call. Please ask before recording it.
